AV-Comparatives has released summary report 2011 and Product of the Year award went to Kaspersky. The award is based on the findings of nine different comparative tests of consumer anti-virus solutions conducted over the year, which in Kaspersky Lab’s case means two products – Kaspersky Anti-Virus and Kaspersky Internet Security. Significantly, Kaspersky Lab was the only participant to have been awarded the highest grade – Advanced+ – in all nine tests.

The full results are available for download in the December Summary Report PDF on the testing laboratory’s website but a summary of the most well known antivirus products follows:
Kaspersky Antivirus – 9 ADV+ (The overall winner and Product Of The Year for 2011 – the only product to achieve ADV+ every time it was tested)
Avira AntiVir Personal – 6 ADV+, 3 ADV
Norton Antivirus – 4 ADV+ and 3 ADV out of 7 tests
Avast Free – 4 ADV+, 2 ADV and 2 STD out of 8 tests
AVG Free – 2 ADV+, 2 ADV and 3 STD out of 7 tests
Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE) – 1 ADV+ and 5 ADV out of 6 tests
McAfee Antivirus Plus – 2 ADV+, 3 ADV, 1 STD and 1 No Rating out of 7 tests
The report also gave recognition to individual companies for - on demand protection, proactive on demand detection, false positives, on demand scanning speed, and overall performance (low system impact). There are ~4 page sections dedicated to each product in the AV Comparatives Summary Report 2011, as well.
